ESL Indirect Speech Lesson Plan

Instructor Suzanne Rose Show bio Suzanne has taught all levels PK-graduate school and has a PhD in Instructional Systems Design. She currently teachers literacy courses to preservice and inservice teachers.

This lesson plan will help you support your ESL students as they learn the difference between direct speech and indirect speech, and complete activities requiring them to convert direct speech into indirect (reported) speech as they interact with peers.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

• define 'indirect speech'
• explain when indirect speech would be used
• convert direct speech to indirect speech in different tenses
• use reported speech correctly in oral discussions
